Metro Rail’s Uttara South and Shewrapara stations were opened for passenger movement from Friday. Through this, 9 stations of metro rail are operational from Uttara to Agargaon. But amid such good news, on April 30, miscreants threw stones at the metro rail from a multi-storied building in Sheorapara area of Kafrul police station of the capital. Through this, the issue of forming the MRT Police came forward again.
According to sources, the letter of permission from the Committee of Secretaries constituted for the formation of MRT Police, a special police unit for Metrorail, is now awaiting approval from the Prime Minister’s Office. The Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) expressed hope that after receiving this approval, there will be a technologically efficient force. MAN Siddiqui told the media, ‘We want the MRT police not to be like ordinary police. Those who will work in MRT police should have technical knowledge.
Police Headquarters AIG (Operations and Management) Farooq Ahmed said that the MRT Police notification will be issued after the approval of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Then the MRT police will start its journey with 231 members. Those who will be appointed in the MRT Police will be done taking into account the skills of the candidates.
Although, no passenger was injured in the stone pelting incident, but Metrorail authorities have filed a written complaint with Kafrul police station.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director (MD) MAN Siddique said that the miscreants involved in the incident have fled the house.
He said, ‘Recently a gang has been formed, who throw stones at the Metrorail. Such incidents happen quite often. We are looking for the perpetrators, but they are all homeless. We will punish them in such a way that no one will do such a thing in the future.’
Confirming the matter, Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman said that on Sunday morning, the metro rail was going to Uttara from Agargaon station via Sheorapara through Kazipara. A rock fell on the metro rail window in the border area of Sheorapara and Kazipara. It is initially confirmed that the rock was thrown from a building on the east side of the road. However, the investigation is going on from which building the stone was hurled. The issue of written complaint of DMTCL has been discussed with senior officials. It has now been registered as a case and investigation will continue. We are seriously investigating the matter. As soon as the accused are identified, they will be brought to justice.
DMTCL Manager (Civil and P-Way) Mahfuzur Rahman told the media that on Sunday (April 30) between 10:30 am and 11:00 am, a stone was pelted at the entrance of Kazipara station metro rail which commute from Agargaon to Uttara North station.
