Recently, a Brazilian court imposed a temporary ban on the messaging app ‘Telegram’ for refusing to provide information about various extremist ‘neo-Nazi’ groups on the platform. The country lifted this ban yesterday (Sunday). News Reuters.
Even if the ban is lifted, the daily fine of 10 lakh Riyals will remain in force if sufficient information is not provided.
Judge Wellington Lopez da Silva made this decision in a court in Espirito Santo state of the country last Wednesday. According to the ruling, the messaging service will be fined 1 million Riyals ($197,780) per day for violating the law.
The country’s federal police applied for this suspension after failing to comply with a court decision earlier. The ruling sought information on two neo-Nazi groups within the app accused of inciting violence at a school.
