Workshops to hold during May 10-13 at Hotel Intercontinental
The country has now set sail in the era of cloud computing on its journey from digital to smart. In the meantime, big networks like Bangla Gov, Info Gov have been created. Bandwidth usage is increasing day by day due to multi-dimensional app usage including education, entertainment, business and communication and proliferation of OTT. SEA-ME-WE 5 provides broadband communications with a design capacity of 24 terabits per second.
Internet bandwidth usage has already reached about 4 TBPS (terabits per second). Internet bandwidth usage will increase by at least 25 percent by the end of this year due to the upcoming City and National Assembly elections.
Estimates say that in the next 7-8 years, i.e. between 2030 and 2032, the country’s bandwidth demand will reach more than 25 terabytes. But the number of skilled manpower in this internet engineering is not increasing at that rate. However, South Asian Network Operators Group (SANOG), an organization of internet engineers, has been holding regular conferences and training programs in South Asian countries to develop this technical knowledge and global network of the Internet. So far, SANOG has held 38 conferences in the Asia Pacific region.
Its 39th bi-annual conference will be held in Dhaka on May 9. Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) is hosting the conference for the sixth time on behalf of Biding and Apricot. Collaborators include the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, BTRC and the ICT Business Promotion Council (IBPC) of the Ministry of Commerce.
The conference will be held at Dhaka’s Pan Pacific Sonorgaon Hotel bringing the leading Internet organizations together such as Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Internet Society and Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC). Internet professionals and organization leaders from 25 countries including India, Bhutan, Nepal and other SANOG member countries are participating in the conference.
The Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar will inaugurate the conference. SANOG President Rupesh Shrestha, Bidung President Rashed Amin Bidyut and ISPAB President Imdadul Haque will deliver welcome speeches at the conference.
BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikdar, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman and IBPC Coordinator Abdur Rahim Khan will be present as the special guests.
ISPAB President Imdadul Haque briefed about the arrangement saying, on the occasion of the conference, a total of 11 people from 4 countries of the world, including 4 people from Bangladesh, have been given fellowships. Maximum 5 people got fellowship from Nepal. Several research papers will also be presented in the conference. The trainers are coming from as many as 8 countries.
He said that sufficient number of students are graduating in the country every year. But lack of practical skills is observed among them. So we want to involve them with the core industry through this conference. We want to create more world-class trainers in the country who will enhance the country’s image by training abroad. Branding the image of the country in the networking sector. Global bridging and virtual security will make Bangladesh proud.
According to the sources, in addition to the panel discussion moderated by APNIC’s Internet Resource Analyst Subha Shamarukh, two technical sessions will be held in the conference; one session will be presided over by Zobair Khan and the session will be conducted by Anurag Bhatia, Hasanuzzaman Ashiq and Abu Sufian. The other session will be conducted by Dr. Rahul Makhija and Ismat Zereen and will be chaired by Dr. Film Smith.
After the conference, a total of 12 workshops will be held from May 10-13 at the Hotel Intercontinental at Shahbagh. The workshops will be on BGP and IPv6 implementation, network security and network automation. 150 registered engineers will participate in it. Coaches include Terry Sweetser, Abdullah Al Nasser, Md Zobair Khan, Warren Finch, Shamim Reza, Suman Saha, Anurag Bhatia, Rupesh Bassnett and Shayla Sharmin.
