In January this year, Google indicated that at least 12,000 workers would be laid off. After just four months, the IT giant is going to walk the path of retrenchment. Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai said that Google may be on the path of major layoffs again in the coming days.
The reason for this is that Google plans to increase the efficiency of the company by at least 20 percent.
Pichai opened up about the layoffs while giving an interview to the Wall Street Journal. Google’s new feature to improve chatbots may cost other employees.
Pichai said, ‘Chatbots have a lot of room for improvement. For now, our main goal is to improve in this area. Therefore, our personnel may be reshuffled as necessary’.
Pichai also said, ‘There has already been a lot of progress in Google’s work. But there is room for further improvement in the coming days. The efficiency of the company can be increased by at least 20 percent. Moreover, we have to keep in mind the issue of cost reduction. We can work with an eye on how the company can run cost-effectively’.
