After the Rohingyas were granted asylum in Bangladesh, the Myanmar government expanded its mobile network along the border. Through this, they are only using their network to conduct illegal business as well as to keep an eye on Rohingyas. Not only that, but their network also poses a threat to the sovereignty of Bangladesh; claimed Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association.
The president of the organization Mohiuddin Ahmed made this claim in his speech while participating in the human chain program held in front of the National Press Club on Thursday (22 September 2022). The human chain appealed ‘Demand to hold a special discussion in the United Nations on the continuous military attack of Myanmar on the Bangladesh border and Rohingya repatriation’.
He said, “We have been demanding the closure of Myanmar’s network on the Bangladesh border for a long time. But the Ministry of Telecommunication has practically not taken any initiative. The junta government of Myanmar has collected all the movements and data of the Rohingya users by distributing 3.5 lakh SIMs among the Rohingyas. It is important to take quick action to identify whether their devices have been installed inside Bangladesh. At the same time, I demand that the communication ministries of the two countries start discussions to stop the illegal network of Myanmar and move their BTS to the border.”
Chairman of the organization MA Bhasani said in his speech that the Hon’ble Prime Minister attended the United Nations, General Session. We request the Prime Minister to make a special request to the UN Secretary-General to propose a resolution condemning the immoral actions of the Myanmar military at this session and convene a special discussion meeting for the repatriation of the Rohingyas. While our military has earned a reputation as a peacekeeping force around the world. And armed with modern weaponry, then the unethical activities of the Myanmar military cannot be accepted by the people of Bangladesh, which has been achieved through the liberation war.
