On March 26, 1971, Bangabandhu’s declaration of independence in a telegram message was sent to the leaders and workers in various parts of the country including Chattogram and the Mujibnagar Government issued 8 commemorative postage stamps to present the liberation war before the world community. Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman said that this role of posts and telecommunications will be unforgettable in the history of independence of Bangladesh. Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak expressed his views while speaking as the chief guest at the discussion meeting on the role of post and telecommunication, organized by the Posts and Telecommunications Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat today on the occasion of the historic Mujib Nagar Day.
The Secretary of Posts and Telecommunication Division said that the ‘Declaration of Independence’ was made on 10 April 1971, which is considered a turning point in the history of the Liberation War. In continuation of this, on 17th April, the Amrakanan of Meherpur was presented in full by the oath of the Mujib Nagar government and recognized as a unique legal document in the history of the whole world.
He highlighted the significance of April 17 and said that the People’s Republic of Bangladesh government was established by taking oath in Mujib Nagar. In that case, it can be said that the establishment of the government of Mujib Nagar is the link to the establishment of today’s Bangladesh. The world should know that a legitimate government had been formed in Bangladesh and under the guidance of that government, the freedom-seeking people of this country were fighting for freedom against the invading forces of Pakistan.
Highlighting the role of posts and telecommunications in the freedom struggle, he said that all the Bengali officials and employees who helped to send Bangabandhu’s declaration of independence using telegram and wireless telecommunication devices are our national heroes. The Hon’ble State Minister has hereby given instructions to take necessary measures to take the initiative to hold these heroes to place them at proper status. We are working towards that goal.

Amirul Islam NDC presided over the function, while BTRC Commissioner Mushfiq Mannan Chowdhury, Director General of Posts and telecommunication Division Tarun Kanti Sikdar, BTCL Managing Director Md. Anwar Hossain, Bangladesh Submarine Cable Limited Managing Director Mirza Kamal Ahmed. Post and Telecommunication Department Joint Secretary Md. Zahirul Islam spoke at the event. Additional Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications Division Mohammad Golam Sarwar E Kaynat, Director General of Telecommunication Department Md. Sahab Uddin, Mailing Operator and Courier Service Licensing Authority Chairman Dr. Md. Mohiuddin and Teletalk Managing Director AKM Habibur Rahman along with officials of departments and organizations were present.
Saida Afroz, Joint Secretary, Posts and Telecommunications Division, presented the keynote speech at the event. The speakers highlighted the significant role of post and telecommunication in Bangladesh’s freedom struggle.
