Smartphone makers Xiaomi and Appo are working on their own customized 5G chipset and this may come true by this year. This information was given by GMS Arena quoting the latest report received from Taiwan.
The Shanghai-based chipset company Unisoc is also reportedly working with SOC to help the next generation connect.
After being blacklisted by the United States, Huawei’s Kirin chip supply was disrupted, and Xiaomi and Appo started thinking of alternatives to their chip supply.
However, this is not the first time that Xiaomi is going to make its own chipset. In 2017, the Surge S1 chip with a 28 nanometers processor was unveiled which was used in the Xiaomi Mi 5C smartphone. However, before the introduction of the Mi Mix fold camera used by Surge C1, no more chips were seen from the chip division.
