U.S. telecom giant AT&T has entered a multi-year, billion-dollar agreement with Corning to procure fiber, cable, and connectivity solutions, aiming to accelerate the expansion of high-speed internet services, reports Reuters.
This move comes as AT&T and other telecom providers like Verizon face declining market shares in the U.S. wireless internet sector, dominated by broadband companies such as Comcast. To regain ground, AT&T is launching various initiatives to meet the growing demand for high-speed fiber data alongside its wireless services.
By partnering with Corning, AT&T aims to reduce implementation costs, improve network quality, and enhance connectivity. In the third quarter alone, the company added over 226,000 new subscribers to its fiber business, though it remains slightly behind its growth targets.
