Apple has warned that cyberattacks on iPhones can be carried out through intrusive app ‘mercenary’ spyware. However, Apple has claimed that it is not possible to collect information and monitor the activities of iPhone users through this app.
Again, to be safe, the company has suggested using updated security features on the iPhone. Taking the threat of spyware attacks seriously, the warning sent to iPhone users in different countries of the world has said that mercenary spyware attacks can be done remotely through Apple ID. To stay safe, turn on lockdown mode on your iPhone and use up-to-date security features.
According to Apple, a cyber-attack involving mercenary spyware on the iPhone was recently detected. Hackers can remotely take control of the iPhone through mercenary spyware modeled after the harmful Pegasus spyware. After that, along with stealing personal information, regular iPhone users started to be monitored.
According to the report published on the online portal of the US magazine Forbes, Apple has warned users that the iPhone may contain surveillance software. The company has warned users in 91 countries of the world including India. It said some iPhones manufactured by them may contain surveillance software similar to the controversial Pegasus malware developed by Israel.
According to Forbes, Apple fears that the governments of the countries concerned may be involved in infecting iPhone users with such surveillance software.
The report also said that not all iPhone users are at risk. Rather, politicians, journalists, government employees, people of opposition and some special sector businessmen are mainly under this threat.
