The 13th edition of Atom Expo, one of the largest international events in the world’s nuclear industry, was held in Sochi, Russia. 40 thematic round table meetings and discussions were held in two days. As always, a number of significant partnership agreements were concluded during Atom Expo. This includes Russia’s Rosatom signing agreements on the development of nuclear medicine centers in Nicaragua and Kazakhstan, and signing a memorandum of understanding with Burkina Faso that includes a potential nuclear power project.
The roadmap, signed by Rosatom Health Technologies Director General Igor Obrubov and Nicaraguan Health Minister Oscar Vazquez, covers a joint project to build a nuclear medicine center, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients, Staff training and also covers cooperation in the health sector.
More than 500 such contracts have been signed in the history of Atom Expo over the past years, with a commercial value of about 63 billion US dollars.
More than 4,500 delegates from different countries, 75 government trade bodies and international organizations participated in this year’s event. A government and a media delegation from Bangladesh also attended.
Russia’s state atomic energy corporation Rosatom provided overall support for the event. This year’s theme of Atom Expo was ‘Fourth Generation Nuclear Reactors and Russia’s Leadership’.
Atom Expo-2024 was inaugurated on Sunday, March 25, at the Sirius Science and Art Park in Sochi, Russia. On the first day, the plenary session titled ‘Implementing a Clean Future’ was attended by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Sizarth, Serbian Health Minister Dr. Danica Gruzisis, Minister of Energy of Belarus Viktor Karankevich, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Dr. Alpers Lan Bairakter, World Atomic Agency (WNA) Director General Sama Bilbao Wyllion, Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev and others.
Since 2009, Atom Expo has been playing a special role in reviewing the status of the nuclear industry in the current world and determining its future trends. It is one of the largest business and exhibition platforms in the industry. The world’s leading nuclear and allied institutions present their latest technologies and capabilities at the exhibition.
