The ICT Division of the Govt has developed ‘Emporia’ software specifically for physically handicapped people. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the platform by connecting online on Sunday morning.
He commented that the software would create bridges between visually-speech-impaired job seekers and employers as well as ensure equality of opportunity.
He said the platform would reduce harassment of people with disabilities and waste money and time. This will allow them to take training as well as attending job interviews via video conference. There is also mentoring facility. This web has 350 audiovisual content, 60 audio content in 6 modules. They also can avail of a certificate.
Bangladesh Computer Council is training at least 10 persons with disabilities from 6 regions of the country in each district to empower the disabled by using technology. This time, to make this work more effective, one laptop is being handed over to them every year, said the state minister.
Palak said the ICT department is going to sign an agreement with the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) on April 3 so that primary and higher secondary teachers can teach disabled students with ordinary students in the same classroom.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT, urged all to come forward to build an inclusive Bangladesh with equal opportunities for all using the power of technology without disability of conscience.
Parthapratim Deb, Executive Director, Bangladesh Computer Council, presided over the function. Khandaker Rafi, an official of General Two, a technology support company, gave details of Emporia Software.
Md. Golam Rabbani was accompanied by NM Ziaul Alam, Senior Secretary, ICT Department, Enamul Kabir, BCC Director, Khandaker Nurul Alam, Executive Director, CSID, Moniruzzaman, Project Director and especially capable persons who are physically handicapped.
Ishara Lata presented the entire program in sign language to the hearing impaired.
