The High Court wanted to know why the website for ‘digital registration’ of marriage and divorce would not be directed to protect family life. The secretaries of the Ministry of Law, Information and Communication Technology and Religion and the Chairman of the BTRC have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
A virtual bench of Justice Mohammad Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Mohammad Kamrul Hossain Mollah issued the rule on Tuesday.
Lawyer Ishrat Hasan heard the appeal in court; Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Russell Chowdhury represented the state.
After the hearing, he said, “Fraud is happening as marriage and divorce registration is not digital. Many are getting married again by hiding information. In many cases, the victims are involved in the case. So it is easy to verify the registration of marriage and divorce on the website with pictures. If such a system is introduced, not only the individual but also the family will be protected. Besides, there will be no disgrace. ”
