Visa, the world leader in payment technology, has appointed new Country Managers for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. Sabbir Ahmed has assumed this position with 27 years of experience across the banking and payment sectors in Bangladesh and Vietnam. He will now lead the overall operations of Visa in three countries with the addition of the Dhaka office.
This information was learnt in a press release on Wednesday. It said that through the appointment of Sabbir Ahmed, Visa reaffirmed its commitment to Bangladesh, alongside Nepal and Bhutan; At the same time, the company indicated its strong business position in Bangladesh. Visa is continuously working to bring the latest payment solutions to meet the needs of digital Bangladesh. Visa is working tirelessly to expand the reach of contactless payments—customers can now pay directly with Visa cards in Wallet. By bringing in Business Payment Solution Providers (BPSPs), small merchants can now accept Visa card payments. Besides, the Smart Farmers Card is empowering the grassroots community. Now, under Sabbir’s leadership, Visa wants to accelerate the growth of digital payments in South Asia.
On being appointed as the country manager of Visa Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Sabbir Ahmed said, “I am very happy to join Visa, the leader in digital payments in Bangladesh and the world. Simultaneously, he will serve as part of the leadership team for Visa India & South Asia.
Sabbir Ahmed joined Visa from Bangladesh Standard Chartered Bank. There he served as Managing Director and Head of Wealth and Retail Banking. Prior to this, he served in senior leadership positions in Bangladesh and Vietnam at HSBC. He also worked at British American Tobacco (BAT). Sabbir is a very well-known name in the banking sector of the country; He has extensive experience in banking and financial services both locally and internationally.
