Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has 42 candidates for the Executive Committee made by 11 for the period of 2024-26. On December 27, 2021, 29 candidates contested against 11 positions in the organization’s executive council election for the term 2022-24. As such, there will be a double competition in the polls this time. This huge interest of the candidates suggests that there could be 3 full panels in the polls apart from independent candidates. But there are rumors of 4 panels.
According to sources, a panel called Team Smart has debuted under the leadership of Mustafizur Rahman Shohel. Another team under the leadership of current president Russell T Ahmed and former president Syed Almas Kabir is preparing to debut. Mustafa Rafiqul Islam is also in this race.
As per the deadline of submission of nomination papers till 5 pm on Saturday, 30 nomination papers have been submitted for Ordinary Member, 4 for Associate Member, 5 for Affiliate Member and 3 for International Members. Candidates will be selected from among 8 ordinary members and 1 each from associate, affiliate and international members.
A total of 1,464 voters will exercise their right to vote in the next leadership election at the RAOWA Convention Center located in Mohakhali of the capital on May 8. Among them 932 are from general, 389 from associates, 134 from affiliates and 9 from international members. However, the total number of members is two thousand 401.
According to the schedule, the list of valid nomination papers will be published on April 4 after selection on April 3. The last time for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 17 at 4 pm. The final candidate list will be published on April 20. BASIS election voting will continue from 10 am to 5 pm on May 8 at the RAOWA Convention Center in the capital. The results of the election will be announced on the same day.
A three-member Election Board has been formed with TIM Nurul Kabir as its chairman to conduct the BASIS elections. The other two members of the board are Syed Mamnoon Quader and Nazim Farhan Chowdhury. A three-member election appeal board has also been constituted. The Appellate Board is chaired by A Tauhid and members Abdullah H Kafi and Nazneen Kamal.
