The list of 118 more martyred intellectuals has been published. The government published the list of 560 martyred intellectuals in four phases.
On Sunday, March 24, the list of 118 martyred intellectuals was released in a press conference at the meeting room of the Ministry of Liberation War. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque released the list of martyred intellectuals.
A scientist, 3 engineers and 13 doctors are among the martyred intellectuals included in the new list. The rest include 54 teachers, 13 philanthropists, 9 politicians, 8 government and private employees, 4 lawyers and 3 writers.
The name of the scientist who was added to the list of martyred intellectuals of the fourth phase is Aminul Islam, son of Azim Uddin Malitha and Rasu Begum of Oronkola village in Ishwardi of Pabna district. He was the Scientific Officer of Ishwardi Sugarcane Research Institute.
In addition, engineer Ahsan Ul Habib, a resident of Kharua in Sirajganj, was a mechanical engineer of BUET. His father’s name is Belayet Hossain and mother Samedun Nesa. Prashant Pal, an engineer who was working in the Rajshahi Electricity Development Board, was the son of Sureshwar Pal and Maya Pal of Ataikula village in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon district. The name of engineer Shams ul Huda of Jog Central Road in Jashore Sadar has also been included in this year’s list of martyred intellectuals.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Liberation War Affairs said that the list of martyred intellectuals will be finalized by the Martyr Intellectuals Day on December 14. He said, the list of the fourth phase is over. If there are any more applications, some reviews are also there… Initially we are announcing the list of 560 martyrs. The last and final list will be published by December 14. It can assume the final list of the draft.
The minister said, we had no laxity in preparing the list. Still, as humans, we can make mistakes. Something may be there beyond our knowledge. Not even applications came for all. If anyone has preliminary information, we will definitely consider and finalize it carefully before releasing the final list.
It is wort noting that, a scrutiny committee was formed on November 19, 2020 with researchers, valiant freedom fighters and officials of the Ministry of Liberation War to prepare the list of martyred intellectuals. Later, in the first meeting of the committee on December 13, 2020, the list of 1,222 intellectuals was initially approved. Initially, in 1972, the list of 1,700 martyrs, later the postal department published postage stamps of 152 martyrs and that list was also approved in that meeting.
