Hungary is building two new nuclear power plants with the help of Russia. In that project, the European country wants to assign engineers and workers who worked in the construction of Rooppur nuclear power plant. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has requested Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud in this regard.
In this regard, a diplomat said, “Hungary is interested in hiring skilled engineers and workers who have worked in the construction of nuclear power plants in Bangladesh.” The issue was raised by the Foreign Minister of Hungary in the discussion of the foreign ministers of the two countries.
Hungary is building two new nuclear power plants. This diplomat said that they are interested in hiring workers from Bangladesh because of the use of Russian technology there as well.
When asked about the position of Bangladesh in this regard, he said, “There is no problem in sending skilled people out of here after the completion of the Rooppur project.”
It should be noted that the nuclear power plant of Bangladesh is being built with the cooperation of Russia. Thousands of Bangladeshi engineers and workers are engaged in that project. Building a nuclear power plant requires specialized knowledge and the engineers and workers employed there are highly skilled.
Economic Cooperation
Hungary wants to sign an Avoidance of Double Taxation and Investment Protection Agreement with Bangladesh to increase economic cooperation.
In this regard, an official said, ‘Hungary is interested in Bangladesh due to the increase in economic capacity. That is why they want to make two preliminary agreements.’
Another official said, ‘Bangladesh will get GSP benefits in the European Union until 2029. After that, Bangladesh will have to negotiate with the EU to get GSP plus benefits. Hungary is a member of the EU and they have assured us of cooperation in getting GSP Plus.’
