The High Court has ordered to ensure uninterrupted mobile phone network service in Dhaka Judge Court and Lawyers Association Building area. At the same time, the mobile phone companies have been ordered to submit progress reports in the form of affidavits to the High Court on April 23.
After the hearing of the writ in this regard, the High Court bench consisting of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Raziq Al Jalil gave the order on Monday (March 4).
Barrister Mohammad Humayan Kabir (Pallab) appeared for the petitioners in the court. He was assisted by Barrister Mohammad Kawsar, Advocate Bayezid Hossain, Naeem Sardar, Barrister Solaiman Tushar and Advocate Md. Sujan Sheikh. In the writ, the Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications, BTRC, Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink and Teletalk have been made defendants.
Earlier on February 20, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Humayan Kabir (Pallab) filed the writ in the relevant branch of the High Court on behalf of human rights organization Law and Life Foundation Trust, Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Bayezid Hossain, Naeem Sardar, Barrister Solaiman Tushar and Dhaka Judge Court advocate Md. Fahad Khan Shaon.
Before this, a legal notice was sent to all private telecom operators in the country to ensure uninterrupted mobile phone network service in the area of Dhaka Judge Court and Lawyers Association Building with a 24-hour period on February 15. But the writ was filed as the concerned did not take proper action
It was said in the notice that, the Dhaka Judge Court is one of the most important institutions for millions of people seeking justice in the country. Dhaka Bar Association is Asia’s largest bar association. Every day hundreds of thousands of people gather in the court premises. Thousands of lawyers are doing their professional work here. Many people of the country, including judicial aspirants, are coming to this arena every day. Hundreds of judges are doing their judicial work. Everyone who comes here uses the network of different operators according to their needs. Many people use the internet through their mobile phones for professional work.
Recently, it is witnessed that many places in this arena have no network. The network is weak in some places. Non-availability of mobile network and internet connection is hampering the professional work of court judges and lawyers. Everyone is being deprived of communication with and internet services. In this situation, it is also stated in the notice that this problem needs to be solved quickly.
