For the sustainable development of the e-commerce sector, the entrepreneurs have urged for the automation of the logistics sectors like Customs, NBR and other related departments. In the first meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Global E-Commerce, the entrepreneurs urged this on Sunday, 19 February.
The meeting was presided over by the Standing Committee Chairman Muhammad Abdul Waheed Tamal while the FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam was present as chief guest.
e-CAB President Shomi Kaiser, BASIS Past President Syed Sadat Almas Kabir, ISPAB Senior Vice President Saiful Islam Siddique, FBCCI Director Mohammad Bazlur Rahman, Hafez Haji Haroon Or Rashid, Shahidul Haque Mollah, Tapan Kumar Majumder, Preeti Chakraborty, Secretary General Md. Alamgir and other business leaders were also present in the meeting.
While speaking as the chief guest, Mahbubul Alam said that there are many challenges in the e-commerce sector. However, it is almost impossible to move out of this sector. However, if there are proper policies including automation of customs, NBR, VAT-tax etc., the e-commerce sector in Bangladesh can go a long way.
Senior Vice President of FBCCI Md. Amin Helali said, FBCCI will work to get policy support for the development of e-commerce sector. But everyone should be careful, so that the business is not adversely affected for misusing the technology.
Shomi Kaiser, Vice-President of FBCCI and President of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) said, “We are stuck with some problems in online cross-border business. Although the problems have been identified, their solution is not yet fully resolved”.
Syed Sadat Almas Kabir, Panel Advisor of FBCCI and former President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), said that; more the online payments will be easier, the more the development of the e-commerce sector will happen. He suggested to discuss with the relevant stakeholders including logistics or courier service association in formulating proper guidelines for this sector.
FBCCI director BM Shoaib urged to work towards promoting the sale of domestic products and its branding by conducting e-commerce business.
