Since advancements in technology and the current global changing social order have added multidimensionality to crime and criminal activities, attaining higher education and training for police personnel in criminology has become very important to deal with multi-dimensional crime.
on Saturday, February 17, that was wat the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun opined while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the eighth batch of the one-year master program on criminology and police management at Police Staff College located at Mirpur in Dhaka.
IGP Abdullah Al-Mamun said, “In addition to various types of crimes in the field, along with the increase in information technology and communication activities, the types of conventional crimes have changed, as well as digitalized crimes have been added. Bangladesh Police is working relentlessly to combat those crimes through higher education and technological development.
He also said, ‘Crimes like terrorism, militancy and extremism have been added to Bangladesh as a result of global crime. Bangladesh Police is successfully conducting education, training and research programs to combat such domestic, regional and international multi-dimensional crimes. As a result of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s sincere desire, Police Staff College started its journey in 2000 and continues to make special contributions in training and research.
While speaking as the president of the event, the Rector of Police Staff College Dr. Mallik Fakhrul Islam said, ‘From the academic year 2015-16, a one-year Master’s program titled Master of Applied Criminology and Police Management is being conducted at the Police Staff College under the National University. In addition to policemen, this Professional Masters program also offers admission to other professions. The program will help strengthen the foundation of smart policing in Smart Bangladesh by increasing professional knowledge and skills in crime through this course.
Additional IG of Police Headquarters Barrister Md. Haroon or Rashid was present as the special guest at the event. MDS Golam Rasul delivered a welcome speech.
Before inaugurating the course, the IGP inaugurated the newly constructed cyber lab of the Police Staff College. During this time, he visited the International Police Research and Innovation Center. He assured all support in the field of higher education and research. In this year’s batch of Master of Applied Criminology and Police Management, apart from policemen, military and civil officers, lawyers, teachers, development workers and others have been admitted.
