In today’s age of information technology, concerted efforts are necessary to keep children safe in the vast world of the Internet. Students and their parents should be made aware of the harmful aspects of technology from childhood to school level without leaving the future generation in the dark about technology. Speakers discussed the matter while speaking in the awareness program under the project called ‘Digitalization of education system in underprivileged remote areas’ under the financing of Social Responsibility Fund (SoF) of BTRC. The event was organized for the teachers and students of government primary schools of Mymensingh division with the aim of increasing the awareness of safe use of internet.
Brigadier General Mohammad Khalil-ur-Rehman, Director General of Systems and Services Division of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) was present as the chief guest in the event organized by Sesame Workshop Bangladesh (Sisimpur) at National Primary Education Academy, Mymensingh on Saturday.
While speaking as the Chief Guest, the Director General of Systems and Services Department of BTRC, Brigadier General Mohammad Khalil-ur-Rahman said that the main objective of BTRC is to ensure sustainable telecommunication services throughout the country. Pointing out that connectivity is essential to build a smart Bangladesh, he said that digital devices, digital content and internet connectivity have been provided to remote areas through Social Responsibility Fund of BTRC. BTRC has so far removed more than 1 lakh harmful content from social media and other media; he said, to make children aware of safe internet use, first of all teachers should be made aware.
Mr. Farid Ahmed, Director General of National Primary Education Academy, while spoke as the special guest, said that children’s childhood is very important; during this time the basic foundation of children is formed. Noting the need to create content on what a child does from morning to night, he suggested keeping the local culture in mind.
Sesame Workshop Bangladesh Managing Director Mohammad Shah Alam said that BTRC has an important role in building digital Bangladesh and said that Sisimpur will create content for children by giving priority to the country’s culture. He also said that initiatives have already been taken to launch safe internet programs in 100 primary schools of 10 upazilas of Mymensingh with the support of BTRC to make teachers aware of safe internet.
Conducted by Sesame Workshop Bangladesh Director Abu Saif Ansari (Program & Business Development), the event was attended by BTRC officials, district and upazila primary education officers, primary school teachers, Internet Society Foundation and representatives of various organizations.
