A seminar on ‘Bangabandhu’s History Awareness’ was held at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST). Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Chair Professor of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain was present as the main speaker in the seminar.
On Saturday at 11 am in the central gallery of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Academic Building of the University, the seminar was organized by the Student Counseling and Guidance Department of JUST on the importance of history in the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation. The JUST VC Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain was present as the chief guest.
Professor Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain, the main speaker at the seminar said about Bangabandhu’s historical consciousness. Two things are relevant in the narration of Bangabandhu’s historical consciousness: his personal attachment to history and how he used history. Bangabandhu’s sense of history is reflected in some of his speeches. It should be remembered that his entire life is a great chapter in Bengali history; Only by reading him can the overall history of Bengali statehood be known. This man incarnated history-context in words, and created history in actions.
Professor Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain also said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman highlighted two important issues related to history in his speech. To draw attention to the importance of reading history, especially for the younger generation, and the political reasons why accurate history of Bengal was not written. First, he said, “The people of Bengal, especially the students and young community, should know our history and past. A son of Bengal who does not know about the heritage of his past descendants cannot be a true Bengali.” History means the past but it is actually wrong. History extends from the past to the present. That is why history means understanding the present in the context of the past.
In the speech of the chief guest at the seminar, the JUST Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is compared to himself. If the Himalayas are measured by hills, then the Himalayas do not get bigger, the hills get bigger. We who talk comparing Bangabandhu with others should stop it. Bangabandhu was a true Bengali. He never compromised with anyone for the sake of the country. Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina also does not compromise with anyone. Just as the Bengalis liberated the country together, today we will strengthen Sheikh Hasina’s hand and free the country from foreign hyenas.
Director of Student Counseling and Guidance Office Professor Dr. Md. Alam Hossain chaired the discussion program while the JUST treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, the president of the teacher’s association, Professor Dr. Md. Iqbal Kabir Zahid, Professor Dr. Shaukat Ara Hossain (wife of Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain) also spoke at the seminar. Apart from them, Deans of various faculties of JUST, department chairmen, department heads, teachers-students, officials-employees were present in the event. The discussion session was conducted by Assistant Director of Student Counseling and Guidance Office, Tanveer Ahmed.
