The Election Commission (EC) has ordered the start of the Smart National Identity Card distribution program which was postponed from January 23 due to the completion of the elections. The directive signed by Director (Operations) Faisal Quader of National Identity Card Registration Division of the agency has been sent to the field level officials.
In the instructions sent by the EC, it is said that, on the occasion of the 12th National Parliament Elections, the instructions were given to complete the ongoing smart card distribution program at the field level across the country by October 30 last year.
It is also said that at that time the smart cards were printed and sent at the upazila and thana levels, but the distribution process has not started, instructions were given to start the distribution process after the National Assembly elections were over.
The EC also informed that in the Upazilas where the smart card distribution process was closed have been requested to start the smart card distribution process from January 23 as per the work plan.
