Newly elected Members of Parliament who won the January 7 election took oath. First of all, the speaker in the first phase Dr. Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury took oath as an MP according to the constitution and rules of procedure and signed in the oath book. After that, at first, 223 members of parliament of Awami League took oath. Awami League President Sheikh Hasina was in the middle of the first row. Later independent candidates took oath in 62 seats. Finally, at 12 noon, the members of parliament elected from Jatiya Party took oath separately.
They took the oath at 10:17 am on Wednesday (January 10) in the oath chamber of the National Assembly. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury signed it after taking the oath as a new MP. After that, the Speaker conducted the oath taking of the newly elected members of Parliament according to Article 148 of the Constitution, Article 5 of the Third Schedule and Rule 5 of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly.
The next step was to sign in the Register of Parliament. After taking the oath, the new MPs signed the oath form in front of the Speaker.
The oath taking ceremony of the 12th National Parliament Secretariat began with the verse number 91of Surah Nahl of the Holy Quran. Imam Hafez and Qari Maulana Mufti Muhammad Abu Raihan recited the meaning of this verse after recitation – ‘And when you make a promise, fulfill the promise of Allah. When you have made a firm promise, do not break it, and indeed you have made Allah responsible for yourselves. Surely Allah knows what you do’.
