Voting for the 12th National Assembly election is going on today on January 7 and will continue from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Election Commission (EC) has directed the officials to be cautious due to the fear of cyberattacks in the elections.
EC System Analyst Mamunur Rashid sent the instructions to all officials on Saturday (January 6).
According to the instructions of EC System Analyst, as per Cyber Threat Alert report ‘Ongoing Phishing Campaign targeting Bangladesh’ published by BGD e-Government CIRT, all endpoint device-users of EC are requested to take appropriate measures and follow precautions to ensure security from phishing attacks.
The guidelines further stated that billions of phishing links are being created and sent in various mails all over the world. By sending these phishing mails, the miscreants try to steal the user’s personal information. Currently, phishing links are being spread not only by e-mail but also by misusing mobile phone SMS or instant messaging services like WhatsApp or Messenger.
Election Commission uses Election Management System, Candidate Management System, Smart Election Management BD App and other technologies in election activities.
EC also has a national identity card server, where the information of about 12 crore citizens of the country is stored.
