Mobile operator Banglalink is transferring ownership of 2,000 towers of Banglalink to Summit Towers, a subsidiary of Summit Communications owned by Summit Group. To this end, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two companies on Wednesday.
The agreement was signed by the Managing Director and CEO of Summit Communications Limited and Summit Towers Limited Md. Arif Al Islam and Banglalink CEO Erik Aas in the presence of Kan Terzioglu, Group CEO of VEON and Fadia Khan, Executive Director of Summit Communications Limited.
Commenting on the agreement, VEON’s Group CEO Kan Terzioglu said, “VEON’s operators in our various markets are transitioning to digital operators and ensuring proper use of infrastructure. Today’s agreement will be considered as a special milestone. The agreement is important in ensuring equitable utilization of resources not only for Banglalink but also for the entire country. Eventually, as a digital operator, we will be able to focus on Banglalink’s core services to cater to various customer needs in the entertainment, education, health and financial sectors.”
The CEO of Banglalink Erik Aas said, “Banglalink is successfully moving forward as a comprehensive digital operator across the country. Its advanced 4G connectivity and best digital services like Toffee and MyBL have gained international recognition. This agreement with Summit Tower will help us focus more on digital services. It will also play a role in eliminating the digital divide across the country and providing better services to the people of the country.
Chairman of Summit Communications Limited and Summit Towers Limited, Muhammad Farid Khan said, “Through this strategic agreement, Banglalink and Summit, the country’s largest integrated telecommunications company, have begun a broader collaboration. We must move forward together in the future. We believe that with VEON’s support, this joint venture will go beyond the country’s borders and reach the international level. Our relationship will also create unique precedents in the region. We want to continue working like this with Banglalink.”
Managing Director and CEO of Summit Communications Limited and Summit Towers Limited Md. Arif Al Islam said, “With this agreement, Summit Towers is established as one of the tower operators. Within the first 5 years of inception, the number of towers of our company has reached almost 4,500. In order to achieve customer satisfaction with quality services, we bring international standard technology and we prioritize passionate employees. We are keen to further strengthen our relationship with Banglalink.”
The Government of Bangladesh and BTRC formulated the tower sharing policy in 2018. Its aim was to ensure maximum utilization of infrastructure in the telecom sector. Banglalink is the first operator in the country to realize the potential of this guideline and partner with Summit.
