The Women’s IGF took place in the capital on key debates on internet governance such as content control, privacy, access and freedom of expression to ensure a gender-equality approach. In this workshop-based meeting, the speakers emphasized women’s equal participation in the Internet and increasing the skills of women in their respective fields in addition to helping everyone to come forward to achieve SDG 5 using the Internet.
Bangladesh Women Internet Governance Forum is an initiative of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum- IGF. Bangladesh Women IGF Secretary General Farha Mahmud Trina conducted this day-long training workshop with members of Bangladesh Women Internet Governance Forum on Saturday.
In the workshop, Secretary General of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum Mohammad Abdul Haque Anu discussed the activities of BIGF. The BNNRC CEO AHM Bajlur Rahman discussed about the State, Market and Society: Government and Governance, What is Governance? He also discusses the definition of governance/types of governance, political/social/economic/digital governance, good governance, digital governance and digital ecosystem.
Khwaja Md. Anas Khan, Country Manager of Gigabyte Technologies delivered the welcome address. Joint Secretary of the organization Sharmin Israel Tanya discussed the goals and objectives of Women IGF.
Shahnaz Sharmin, chief reporter of Nagrik TV and Shahnaz Munni, chief news editor of News 24 TV, were present as guests of honour.
Former Secretary and Sampriti Bangladesh Joint Convener Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed was present as a special guest in the event. He called on women to play a more leading role in the development of the country and welcomed the new committee of Bangladesh Women IGF.
While speaking as the chief guest, Bangladesh Women IGF, MP Afroza Haque Rina discussed about the role of internet in the advancement of women and an enabling environment for women and affordable internet for all women to improve the lives of women.
The workshop participants were able to explore many new ideas and gain a variety of knowledge about Internet governance. Finally the participants took part in an open discussion.
President of Bangladesh Women IGF Shamima Akhtar thanked the participants of the workshop and sincerely thanked all those who directly and indirectly helped in organizing this workshop and hoped that Bangladesh Women IGF will play a very important role in the future.
