The Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said, “Although our independence was officially announced on March 26, Bangabandhu basically gave that announcement indirectly in his speech on March 7. When the people of East Pakistan became helpless due to torture and discrimination on top of Pakistanis, Bangabandhu energized Bengalis from all walks of life through this historic speech. This speech is an inspiration to any oppressed and downtrodden people in the world. Our present generation should realize the significance of this speech and dedicate themselves to building a developed, prosperous and smart Bangladesh by 2041.”
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at a short discussion meeting organized at the mural premises of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the campus today, March 7 (Monday).
Director of Student Welfare Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim presided over the program while the Dean of Engineering and Technology Faculty Dr. Sunil Dhar and the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Moinul Islam were present as the special guests. The Head of the Department of Water Resources Strategy Professor Dr. Ayesha Akhtar, President of Staff Welfare Committee and President of CUET Bangabandhu Parishad Professor Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, President of the Teachers’ Association Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, President of Officers’ Association Engineer Syed Mohammad Ikram, and President of Staff Association Md. Jamal Uddin also spoke in the program. The program was moderated by the Deputy Director (Information and Publication) Mohammad Fazlur Rahman.
Earlier, on the occasion of historical March 7th, from the front of the Administrative Building of the University, a rally was taken out under the leadership of the Honorable Vice Chancellor of CUET, Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam. The rally circled the various roads of the campus and ended at the mural premises of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman adjacent to Independence Square. After that, the Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam. Deans of various faculties were present at this time. After that, a wreath was placed on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the initiative of CUET Bangabandhu Parishad.
