Startup Bangladesh, the flagship program of the Bangladesh government, has announced an investment in healthcare startup ‘AmarLab’ to improve the quality of healthcare in Bangladesh through innovative technology solutions. The investment is a part of the government’s efforts to promote the startup ecosystem in Bangladesh and support promising startups working to solve important societal challenges.
A financing agreement has been signed between the two institutions in Dhaka for an investment of Tk. 1 crore in the pre-seed round.
Sami Ahmed, Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh and Tajin Shadid, Co-Founder and Chairman of AmarLab, signed the agreement in the presence of the Chairman of Startup Bangladesh Limited and Secretary of ICT Department Md. Shamsul Arefin. At this time, Head of Portfolio Investment of Startup Bangladesh Hasan A. Arif and co-founder of Amarlab Dr. Ishtiaq Zahid were present.
Commenting on the agreement, the State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “I am very happy to know that Startup Bangladesh Limited is investing in promising startups like AmarLab, which can bring about an epochal change in the healthcare sector. This investment demonstrates that the government is not only supporting innovative initiatives, but also focusing on ICT enabled initiatives that can solve our country’s pressing health challenges. I hope we will soon see the positive role AmarLab is playing in the health sector of our country.”
Md Shamsul Arefin, secretary of ICT Division and chairman of Startup Bangladesh said, “AmarLab is working successfully and playing an important role in the healthcare sector of the country. I believe Startup Bangladesh’s investment will help their services reach more people. I expect the startup to play an active role too in establishing Smart Bangladesh. ICT Division is always supporting startups through various initiatives”.

On the other hand, Tajin Shadid, co-founder and chairman of AmarLab said, ‘We are excited to get the support of Startup Bangladesh to deliver quality healthcare to everyone in Bangladesh. This investment will help us expand our operations and reach more people.’ AmarLab has so far raised Tk. 6 crore in pre-seed investment and Startup Bangladesh’s latest investment is expected to help AmarLab expand its operations, improve its technology platform and reach more patients across Bangladesh. The investment also reflects the government’s commitment to support startups in the technology sector and promote entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.
It is to be noted that, AmarLab is a startup that works at the intersection of healthcare, logistics and data and aims to make healthcare accessible to everyone, everywhere. AmarLab brings diagnostic services to customers’ doorsteps and takes care of all logistics. AmarLab has built the largest scalable platform for healthcare diagnostic ecosystem in Bangladesh. Customers can select the lab of their choice, get diagnostic tests done from their home, or office or any place of their choice and then view all their health records at one place, and make the necessary decisions to stay healthy. Since 2020, AmarLab has completed more than 50,000 diagnostic tests.
