On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, ‘UN Bangla’ font has been released in 7 different forms including Unicode to bring more diversity to the use of Bengali on the internet. This font is published by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for Bengali speakers around the world. The font can be downloaded from this website.
The Unicode version of the UN Bangla font was officially released on Monday by UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative Stefan Leeler and Goodwill Ambassador Jaya Ahsan at UNDP’s Dhaka office. Earlier on 21 February 2020, UN Bangla font was released for offline use only in one form.
UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Liller said, ‘In 2020, we released the UN Bangla font on International Mother Language Day, in memory of language martyrs. As the use of Bangla online is increasing gradually, we have released the ‘UN Bangla’ font in Unicode for everyone to use. The Unicode version of the UN Bengali font on the International Mother Language Day, honoring the Bengali language, will add a new dimension to Bengali writing.’
While inaugurating the font, Jaya Ahsan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNDP Bangladesh said, “This is undoubtedly a great news for those of us who write in Bengali, I am happy to be with such an initiative of UNDP on International Mother Language Day.”
Head of Communications of UNDP Bangladesh Md. Abdul Qayyum, designer of UN Bangla font Mohibubur Rahman Rajan and others were also present at the event.
