Twitter, the world’s most popular social media and microblogging site, has closed its offices in neighboring India’s economic hub Mumbai and political hub Delhi. From now on, the employees of these two offices have been ordered to work from home by the Twitter headquarters.
US media Bloomberg reported in a report on Friday (February 17) that Twitter had three offices in India so far. But due to the cost-cutting policy of the company’s owner Elon Musk, the move to close the offices in Mumbai and Delhi has been taken.
According to the report of the Indian media NDTV, Twitter has opened its office in Bengaluru, the capital of India’s technology, even though two offices have been closed. Most of the employees of this branch are engineers.
Elon Musk laid off more than two hundred workers in India shortly after taking ownership of the company at the end of last year. An estimated 90 percent of Twitter’s workforce in India was laid off at the time.
Elon Musk is said to be working hard to make Twitter financially stable by 2023. Therefore, he is laying off numerous workers and closing multiple offices all over the world at once.
NDTV reports that Twitter has become one of the most important public platforms in India in recent years. Hot political posts and comments are often seen among Indians on this platform. Moreover, even though Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has 8.65 million followers on Twitter, Twitter has not received any significant revenue from India.
