Amazon has decided to lay off workers to save costs. However, this multinational company has to spend a large amount of money even in laying off those workers. More than 18,000 workers worldwide will be cut from Amazon’s pocket by 640 million US dollars. Reuters reported this news citing Amazon.
Amazon has been talking about layoffs for the past few days. The company’s CEO, Andy Jassey, announced the layoffs in January. Retrenchment processes have already begun across the world. Around 1,000 workers may be laid off in India. Amazon authorities will give a lump sum to help those workers who are being laid off. The CEO said this while announcing the layoffs.
Amazon has promised to pay 5 months’ salary to all the workers who are being laid off. Apart from this, health benefits and other necessary benefits will be given to the retrenched workers. It will cost Amazon $640 million to support the laid-off workers which is about 6827 crore Bangladeshi Taka.
