Getting a job involves a lot of steps of interviews; ‘Job Fair’ Going beyond these conventional methods, ‘Geeky Solutions’, an organization of 9 software manufacturers, has chosen the way of recruiting staff through training and competition. Orbitax Bangladesh Limited, one of the software manufacturers of the organization, hired 4 employees through the first ‘Geeky Solution Learnathon’.
4 students of the champion and first runner-up team in the competition were appointed to the software manufacturing company Orbitax as a prize on Thursday. They are Masum Billah, Syed Shibli Mahmood of the Champion team and Asif Abdullah and Raihan Nishat of the Runner-up team.
The organizers of the competition said that the remaining 5 students of the 3 teams that won the competition will also have the opportunity to work as apprentices in the institution after their studies.
The ‘Geeky Solutions Larnathon’ competition was held on Saturday evening at the Orbitax office in RAWA Complex, Mohakhali in the capital. Seven teams participated in the finals of the competition. Syed Shibli Mahmud and Mohammad Masum Billah, final semester students of Computer Science of Sylhet Engineering College, became champions by creating a new software suitable for industrial use in the final stage. As the Champion of the competition, they were given a check of one lac Taka. Along with them, two students who became the Runners Up from the Daffodil University were given the appointment letter of Orbitax and three other students from the second runner-up Shahjalal University of Science and Technology got the opportunity to intern.
Regarding this, the Managing Director of Orbitax Hasan Shahriar Masud said that they (winners) will join their company at the beginning of the new year. He said, in the future, more young technicians will be given opportunities in this process.
The organizers said that 169 educational institutions and more than 40 universities from different parts of the country have applied to participate in the competition. After the initial selection, 25 selected teams from 15 universities were given four months of training to develop industrial software and improve their skills. Each team was then asked to create a software application similar to Twitter. Each team submitted this software application in a two-month effort and participated in this competition.
Russell T Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), awarded the prizes to the best teams based on the judges’ verdict. Startup Bangladesh Managing Director Sami Ahmed, BdJobs Chief Executive Officer Fahim Mashroor and prominent technicians were present at this time.
Winners and participating technicians remarked that the competition and training have opened up new possibilities for young technicians.
