Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni said that it is very important to take scientific researches in practice to the place of implementation and application. There should be academic-industry linkages in research. A bridge has to be created between the world of commercialization and the innovation world of the scientists.
While speaking as the Chief Guest, Dr. Dipu Moni expressed her thoughts. Earlier, he inaugurated the 10-storey Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose Academic Building at the JUST.
After this, Member of Parliament for Jessore-3 Constituency Kazi Nabil Ahmed inaugurated the ‘JUST School and College Building’. The Education Minister also planted a Krishnochura (Delonix regia) sapling in the school premises. Earlier, the Education Minister started the day-long program at the university by paying tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mural at the main gate of JUST.
Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni said that not only students need practical knowledge of industry, but industry-academia linkage is very important for research. Outside universities innovate for industry and that’s where most of their funding comes from. Such activities are more possible in this university as well. Because you are ahead in science and research. It is possible to start a start-up by setting up a large incubation center here and get great support from there. She said, in this age of competition, competence is the key to survival. Must be eligible for this. I think this university has that qualification.
Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni said Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter, Sheikh Hasina. In all cases we have to qualify. I came to Jashore from Dhaka in just three hours this morning. It was once unimaginable. This was possible due to the successful leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina. No more standing at the ferry terminal for hours. Those who are producing vegetables or flowers here will not have to wait for the ferry anymore, they will not suffer any more.
Dr. Dipu Moni also said that although it is a science and technology based university; still, this university needs some more land. If you apply to us, we will provide as much land as possible, so that it is available quickly. She also promised to take necessary initiatives and told for an appropriate places to set up a cricket ground, tennis court, and an international standard stadium in JUST.
Awami League’s joint general secretary Dr. Dipu Moni said to the students, ‘You should be conscious of politics and be engaged in politics actively. Politics is a positive thing. Let no negativity come into it. Politics should be done by winning people’s hearts. There is no alternative to positive politics for this.’
While speaking as the special guest, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Member of Parliament for Jessore-3 Constituency and Member of JUST Board of Regents, said that JUST has now become the ‘Center of Excellence’ in this region. For this, the university should increase its education and research opportunities. He drew the attention of the Education Minister in this regard. At the same time, he sought the kind attention of the Minister of Education for the overall cooperation in the acquisition of land for the university.
The JUST Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said while speaking as the president that the vision and mission of Jashore University of Science and Technology has been determined keeping in mind the slogan ‘We do not want jobs, we will offer jobs’. It is reflected in our academic curriculum. We have taken the initiative to provide hands-on education to the students to create not only skilled manpower but also entrepreneurs in various fields. Industry-Academia Partnership, Academia-Government-Industry Partnership is being given priority for this. Even, researchers of this university are working in multinational partnership for technology development. Besides, he presented various demands of the university to the Education Minister, including land acquisition, approval of research projects for the expansion of JUST campus. JUST Teachers Association President Dr. Selina Akhter also raised some demands on behalf of the teachers and students.
The Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni handed over flowers, crests, checks and certificates to various teachers and staff. Among them: Md. Javed Hossain Khan and Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, teachers of the university were awarded for their special contribution; Dr. Selina Akhter and Dr. Md. Munibur Rahman in integrity; Rana Singh and Md. Roknuzzaman in teacher category and Boishakhi Roy and Md. Nasim were awarded in the employee category.
The JUST registrar engineer Md. Ahsan Habib delivered his welcome speech on the occasion. The program was conducted by JUST English department chairman Dr. Md. Munibur Rahman and lecturer of the same department Tusmeet Mehruba Aanka.
