Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar called upon all concerned including mobile financial service (MFS) providers and banks to work in a coordinated manner to implement the initiatives taken by the government to make life easier for every person in the country by bringing them under digital financial services.
He said, cashless society is our goal. As a continuation of the Digital Bangladesh program, it is possible to make payments from supershops to vegetable vendors through mobile financial services.
The minister opined so while speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of ‘Nagad’ and ‘Nagad Islamic’ accounts from Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited at Hotel Radisson in Dhaka on Thursday night.
Post and Telecommunication Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman, Islami Bank Managing Director Mohammad Monirul Mawla, Postal Department Director General Md. Harun Ur Rashid, Islami Foundation Director General Monim Hasan and Managing Director of Nagad Tanveer Mishuk spoke on the occasion.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications referred to the ‘Add money’ program between Nagad and Islami Bank as a significant initiative in bringing financial services to people’s doorsteps. The minister expressed hope that this program in collaboration with Islami Bank would make a significant contribution to the financial inclusion of common people. Referring to Nagad as an MFS rich in innovation of young entrepreneurs, he said that Nagad’s KYC innovation was a remarkable technology that led others to follow the path of Nagad and enter the era of KYC.
This pioneer of digital technology development said that even a few decades ago, the education rate in this agrarian economy country was very low, modern life was unimaginable, people did not know what innovation was. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary Digital Bangladesh program has stunned the world. It is impossible to imagine what the living standards of the people would have been without the Digital Bangladesh program during the pandemic. However, after the announcement of the Digital Bangladesh program in the election manifesto of the Awami League in 2008, attempts have been made to defame the program in various ways, and there has been propaganda about it.
The minister said, seeing the innovative concept of Nagad in the beginning, we are playing a positive role in the progress of Nagad and it will continue in the future.
Mentioning the importance of encouraging creative work, the minister said, ‘On March 26, 2019, ‘Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’ inaugurated the Nagad service by sending ten thousand taka to my Nagad account, which is a matter of great pride for us. I will try to maintain this balance of ten thousand taka in my Nagad account for the rest of my life. For this the auspicious journey of Nagad is a great blessing for me. Minister wished Nagad continued success.

It was informed at the event, according to the agreement signed between digital financial service ‘Nagad’ and’Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited’, customers of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited who are using Selfin mobile apps can ‘add money’ to any ‘Nagad’ and ‘Nagad Islamic Wallet’ instantly.
