After the Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka; Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport is also launching electronic gates for hassle-free travel of international passengers. The e-gates will be manned by the immigration police and cameras will be installed at each gate.
State Minister of Aviation and Tourism Ministry Md. Mahbub Ali will inaugurate these tech based special 6 e-gates. After the official opening, the nternational passengers will have access to 3 gates and 3 gates to arrive. Through this, Chittagong Airport is also going one step further in the ranks of international airports.
“Passengers can easily go through the e-gates, as after submitting the e-passport, the gates will open automatically and the entire process will be completed within 30 seconds,” said the airport authority. Earlier, 12 e-gates were inaugurated at Dhaka Airport on June 7.
It is learned that the passenger must have an e-passport to use the e-gate. First you have to scan the page with your photo, information and barcode at the entrance of e-gate. The first step will open when all the information is verified through artificial intelligence. The passenger’s instantly available face will then be matched with the passport photo automatically through camera-based facial recognition. If the faces match, the second gate will also open. A passenger’s immigration will be completed within 20-22 seconds if the server and system are fine.
E-Gate cannot be used if the current face does not match the e-passport photo for any reason. Still the passenger has to approach the immigration officer for final clearance. Because, even though passport information is verified electronically at e-gate, e-visa is not available in all countries. So, that visa has to be verified manually. The immigration department has to verify and give seal and signature against it.
The e-passport has a built-in microprocessor chip, which contains the details of the holder. The e-gates at Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport will identify air passengers after scanning e-passports. This process ensures high security during verification of travel documents.
