After the decision to cut 11,000 employees, the social media giant Meta is going to stop the smart display ‘portal’ project to make a smartwatch. As a result, the entire hardware project of the company is being stopped.
Meta is overhauling the company’s internal infrastructure, Reuters reported, citing Meta executives. Voice and video call service workers are merging with the messaging team.
Of the 11,000 workers at Meta who are losing their jobs, about 46 percent worked on innovative technology products, according to Reuters; the remaining 54 percent worked on the business side of the company.
According to the news, Meta has secretly stopped the production of the portal in the last June. On the other hand, among the two smartwatch projects that have been decided to be discontinued, the foremost was a smartwatch named ‘Milan’. The device was planned to go on sale in the spring of next year.
No comment was received from Meta on this matter.
