The trading of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the main stock market of the country has been temporarily stopped due to bugs or errors in the trading software.
The Deputy General Manager of Public Relations and Publication Department of DSE has confirmed that the transaction is temporarily closed due to technical problems. Shafiqur Rahman. DSE IT team, NASDAQ and related parties have already met to solve the problem, he said. “Once the problem is solved, the transaction will start again”, He said.
However, he could not say anything specific about what time the transaction could restart.
The same expression came from the executive director and spokesperson of the regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Mohammad Rezaul Karim. He told the media that trading in DSE was stopped due to a mechanical fault. DSE’s own IT team and NASDAQ engineers are working. The transaction will be initiated if the error is rectified within the banking period.
It is to be noted, the transaction was stopped after 10:58 am on Monday. The problem has not been resolved till the writing of this report. DSE’s website has also stopped updating since that time.
Earlier, in the board meeting of DSE with the commission on September 27, the regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) ordered to strengthen the website besides bringing in a new order management system (OMS). In the meeting, the members of the committee formed to investigate the errors in the trading system and website of DSE presented various aspects of their report. It was then said that the OMS software used to complete transactions in the capital market was faulty. The system does not have the capacity to take the pressure of additional transactions. Moreover, the system has been in operation for 6 years. The term of such software is usually 8 to 10 years. As a result, within the next 2 to 4 years, the OMS system of DSE will have to be updated or new software should be provided. The DSE board was asked by the commission to bring the new OMS software as soon as possible. As well as the information technology of the exchange.
DSE launched the improved version of the website on August 20 this year. It was said at the time that the updated website will be investor friendly and highly responsive.
