Tech giant Google has revealed plans to set up its first data center in Japan. This initiative has been undertaken as part of a wide and large scale investment in the world’s third largest economy. Google, owned by Alphabet, will invest 690 million dollars for this. News Techtimes.
The new data center is reportedly located in Inzai, Chiba Prefecture. Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed the piece of information in a blog post.
According to Pichai, the company’s desire to integrate Japan into the global economy will be largely fulfilled by opening a third Asian data center in Chiba. Other centers are located in Taiwan and Singapore.
Chiba’s plan is a part of the tech giant’s $730 million investment target to improve local infrastructure. This investment has been ongoing since last year and will continue till 2024. Apart from setting up data centers, Google is currently working on developing a new undersea cable called Topaz. Through this, Japan and Canada will be connected to each other.
