The election for the post of the President of Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum (BIJF), the national association of media workers of the ICT sector, will be held again on Friday, September 30. Election Commission gave this decision on Sunday. Abdullah H Kafi, former chairman of the association, is serving as the Chief Election Commissioner. The other members of the commission are Pallab Mohaimen, the Joint Feature Editor of the national daily- the Prothom Alo, and ARM Mahmud Hossain, Senior Journalist. Sumon Islam and Ariful Hasan Apu are serving as members of the appeal board.
The polls were held on September 23 for electing the Executive Committee- 2022-24 of BIJF. But surprisingly, 2 candidates got an equal number of votes in 3 positions. Then it was decided to take a new vote. Daily Ittefaq’s IT in-charge Mojahedul Islam Dhew verbally withdrew himself as a candidate.
But his name was on the ballot as usual. Out of a total of 54 voters, 50 votes were cast but he did not get any votes. Among the other two candidates, Hasan Zakir, senior sub-editor and section head of the ICT page of daily Samakal, who announced the Smart BIJF concept, and Nazneen Nahar, editor of the monthly Techworld, got 25 votes each.
In the BIJF 2022-24 Executive Committee election, those who already have been elected are: the Monthly Computer Bichitra founder and the Chief Executive Editor Bhuiyan Inam Lenin, as Co-president; Consultant Editor of Barta 24 Sabbin Hasan as the General Secretary, Staff Reporter of the Daily New Times Sajedur Rahman as the Joint General Secretary; Feature Editor of Dhaka Post Md. Ariful Islam as the Organizing Secretary, Biztech24.com Special Representative Saiful Islam as Treasurer; Asaduzzaman Limon, feature editor of Dhaka Mail as Publication and Research editor; Enamul Karim, Executive Editor of Daily Digital Time and Digibanglatech.News Executive Editor S. M Imdadul Haque as the Executive Members.
