US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mustafa Jabbar, at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat. During the meeting, they exchanged views on various issues related to bilateral interests, especially the progress of the telecommunication sector, in addition to the telecommunication facilities among the embassy officials for communication in the Rohingya camps.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications mentioned the existing good relations between Bangladesh and the United States. He said that under the far-sighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has undergone revolutionary changes in the continuation of the implementation of the Digital Bangladesh Program in the last thirteen years. He said, ITU is an important global organization in the telecommunication sector. Bangabandhu sowed the seed of digital revolution in this agrarian country by gaining membership of the ITU in 1973 and setting up a satellite geostation at Betbunya on 14 June 1975. The minister mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina transformed the seeds planted by Bangabandhu into prosperity during her 18-year rule.
The ambassador praised the progress of Bangladesh in developing digital connectivity, especially in the country’s telecommunications sector. He praised Mustafa Jabbar’s role in introducing Bengali language in digital technology. He talks about his experience in the digital technology of the minister.
