Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association- BMPCA, a vocal organization on consumer rights, has issued an early warning message to protect the young generation from misuse of technology. According to the observation of the organization, there are about 40 million internet and technology users among the young generation in the country. Based on the information obtained from various surveys, we have come to know that among the users of this technology, the young generation is abusing the Internet by about 60 percent. We also visited various schools and colleges and talked to teachers and students and found that current students are not paying attention to their studies. The quality of education is decreasing day by day.
About 80 percent of those who took admission in the first year of HSC and took the first semester examination did not pass. Teachers said that the biggest reason for such results is students’ addiction to mobile phones. For two years, we have forced students to attend online classes and exams at home amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Parents were forced to buy their child a handset, laptop or tab. Along with education, this young generation has become addicted to online gambling. We all know the news of death of young generation.
In a message sent to the media on Saturday (August 13) on the occasion of World Youth Day, the organization said, “When we are raising our voices to increase the availability and quality of telecommunication, internet services, technology, we are sadly noticing that the misuse of internet and technology is the most. Where the government and we are also urging everyone to use technology to build a digital Bangladesh, our current young generation is in the opposite situation.
A dire situation awaits Bangladesh if the young generation is not quickly brought back to the proper use of technology. We would like to request the government that the Ministry of ICT constantly conducts big programs to create entrepreneurs. But they have no program to prevent misuse of technology. There is no role even from the regulatory body or the Ministry of Telecom or from the operators.
Due to lack of capacity in our organization, we ourselves are unable to play a large role. The government should come forward with responsibility to overcome this situation. We are calling the attention of the technical advisor. He will give guidance on how to avoid misuse of technology.
