Grameenphone, a connectivity partner of Digital Bangladesh, has set up an F-Commerce Haat for the Kansat Mango Warehouse Cooperative Society in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj district. Apart from Shibganj, the social media Facebook-based digital Haat has also been opened in Baneshwar and Rangpur in Rajshahi. Grameenphone has taken this initiative to help the members of the local association to open the possibility of conducting business in the virtual field through high speed and uninterrupted internet through this market. The operator thinks that this initiative will play an important role in developing ‘smart’ mango farmers in this sector.
Grameenphone CMO Sajjad Hasib said, “We believe that connectivity plays an important role in empowering people. Our initiative to empower farmers is a reflection of how we can play a role in the progress of society in the upcoming digital revolution. Online marketplaces are playing a role in creating equal opportunities for all. Through Grameenphone’s 4G network across the country, online marketplaces are accessible, eliminating the need for middlemen and Grameenphone is instrumental in increasing profitability for farmers and related communities. We believe our efforts like this will inspire many more to come forward with the goal of building a ‘Smart Bangladesh’.”
Through F-Commerce, Rajshahi’s mango seller Redwanur Rahman Moon said, “People from different parts of the country look forward to ordering mangoes for themselves and their families during this season. Despite the strong demand in the market, we are facing various challenges including technical issues, which are hindering the expansion of the business as per our expectations. In this regard, we are grateful to Grameenphone for coming forward. Through this initiative, Grameenphone is empowering us with digital skills and providing the necessary support in online business expansion.”
During the nine-day Haat (market), around 11,000 mango traders got an idea of how to unleash their potential through digital business management and using the company’s existing digital services, including Grameenphone’s one-stop solution app MyGP.
