At present there are only 28,000 rickshaws licensed in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area, but a million rickshaws are on move. Almost all of these rickshaws are using fake licenses. In such a reality, DNCC plans to bring every rickshaw under QR code and installing digital number plate.
On Wednesday (June 29), the mayor of Dhaka North Md. Atiqul Islam informed so, while took part in Bangladesh Bank’s pilot project, ‘Smart Bangladesh, Smart Haat‘ activities.
Speaking at the inaugural function held at the Sheraton Hotel in Banani, he said, “We want to take up rickshaw licensing activities within the next six months.” Where the digital number plate for the rickshaw will be added with QR code. That code will contain detailed information of the rickshaw. In the first stage, we will start with QR code in two thousand rickshaws in Dhaka city (DNCC area). Those number plates will be made from outside the country. So that, there is no chance of copying.
Dhaka North City Corporation has started digital holding tax for the first time, said the mayor of DNCC. Our next attempt now is to digitize trade licenses. By the end of this year, trade licenses will also be issued online. Digital car parking services will also start from next month.
