State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP said, “If all the leaders of Natore go together and remind the Prime Minister about the promise she made to build a press club complex in Natore, she will surely give an allocation for it.”
The state minister made the suggestion while exchanging views with journalists of Natore Press Club at Natore Circuit House on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed and President of Natore Press Club Faraji Ahmed Rafiq Baban and members were present at that time.
At the exchange of views, the journalists first spoke about the problems in their speeches. They said the Natore Press Club building was established in 1977. As the Natore Press Club building was in the land of the Roads and Highways Department and for the purpose of conducting major road widening activities in the city, the building was demolished in just one day’s notice on a holiday given on 14 May. As the only place for journalists to sit, the press club has been demolished and the furniture of the press club has also been destroyed. This has hampered the work of journalists to send news.
In this situation, the Mayor of Natore Municipality Uma Chowdhury Jolly has given a piece of land for the Press Club building where they have to construct the building at their own expense. In this situation, it is not possible to build a building without the cooperation of everyone. The journalist leaders also sought the intervention of the state minister in the construction of the Press Club building promised by the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, local MP and state minister for ICT Palak said, “If everyone works together, it will be possible to build Natore’s press club building.”
The Press Club building was evicted on May 16 under the leadership of Law Officer Kamruzzaman Miah as it was the property of the Roads and Highways Department to carry out major road widening activities in Natore city. However, the Natore municipality allotted the building to the Natore Press Club in a contract that was their property.
