On the occasion of International Girls in ICT Day, in collaboration with Plan International Bangladesh and initiated by Bangladesh Open Source Network, Girls in ICT Skill Development Bootcamp was organized on 29th and 30th May 2022 with the participation of 15 high school and college students. The camp was organized to increase the interest of female students in information technology as well as to make them proficient.
The two-day ICT Bootcamp began with an introductory episode. Semanti Monjari, Campaign Manager of Plan International Bangladesh and Munir Hasan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network were also present at this time. After that, besides giving basic idea of computer, the girls were given hands-on training on graphics design, freelancing, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint etc. in different sessions of two days. Through two days of learning these skills as well as hands-on practice, students learnt about various mediums in the world of information technology. In the sessions, students were imparted training by individuals skilled in information technology.
The main objective of the whole camp was to explain why girls need technology based skills and how to acquire these skills. Sadia Akhter Shila, a participant in the camp, said, “Never before has there been so much opportunity to work with a laptop. This is the first time I’ve been to a camp and learned so much about using a computer. “Kaniz Fatema, Chief Executive Officer of BdOSN, said, “We are delighted to be able to organize such an event with Plan International Bangladesh with female students.” We will continue our efforts in such joint ventures to increase the number of girls in the technology sector. The two-day camp ended today with the distribution of certificates.
