The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh- IEB, the national organization of engineers, has conferred lifetime and posthumous honors to leading outstanding engineers. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, presented the award at the IEB auditorium in the capital on Saturday, May 21 evening.
For playing important roles during the establishment of IEB, for rendering outstanding contribution during the glorious Liberation War and for the special contribution he made in the formation of the country during the post-liberation period, Engineer Quamrul Islam Siddique has been honored by the apex organization of engineers of the counyry. His son-in-law Humayun Kabir Bablu received the award on behalf of Engineer Quamrul Islam Siddique.
17 engineers including Engineer MA Jabbar, Founder President of Institution of Engineers Bangladesh; Engineer Rafiq Uddin Ahmed and Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury were posthumously honored for their role in nation building and development of engineers.
Besides, Engineer Golam Mohammad Alamgir, Engineer Sirajul Majid Mamun, Engineer Delwar Majumder and a total of 68 engineers were awarded lifetime achievement awards.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works said that engineers have contributed a lot in the formation of the country in the post-independence period. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and with strong self-financing, the Padma Bridge is being built by the engineers of Bangladesh. Not only Padma Bridge but also the mega projects that are being carried out in Bangladesh at present are being done by the renowned engineers of this country with their untiring work, talent and important contribution.
He remembered the contributions made by late engineers Quamrul Islam Siddique, MA Jabbar, Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, and Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury with deep reverence recalling the important role played by them in mobilizing the rural economy for the development of war-torn Bangladesh; he said that they have worked tirelessly to bring IEB to this stage. Their contribution will always be remembered.
Awami League Secretary for Science and Technology and former IEB President Engineer Abdus Sabur was also present as a special guest. IEB President Engineer Nurul Huda presided over the function.
At the end of the award ceremony, a cultural program was staged.
