About half the population of Dhaka left the city to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr this year. With them, about 10 million SIMs have left the capital city. Of these, on 1st May alone, 2.9 million active SIMs left Dhaka.
In this regard, the Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar said that the number of SIMs left Dhaka city in three days till May 1 has exceeded 7.25 million. If approximately 3 million SIMs have gone out of Dhaka in the previous two days. So, the total number of SIMs has crossed 10 million.
Operators have been instructed to ensure uninterrupted service for mobile users leaving Dhaka, said Mostafa Jabbar. “We will collect information about the mobile phone users leaving Dhaka and will take steps accordingly.”
He added, “Mobile operators should increase the bandwidth in areas where customers have gone on holiday. This information further shows that the task of strengthening the network of operators in the capital alone cannot be limited.”
Earlier, about 15 million mobile SIM users left Dhaka for Eid-ul-Azha holiday last year. According to BTRC, the number of mobile connections in the country in March this year was 182.9 million.
Meanwhile, about 1 million people from Dhaka have gone abroad for Eid holidays. About five lakh of them have gone to India on the occasion of Eid. In addition, a significant number of people have gone to Dubai, Maldives, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand for Eid holidays.
Many have gone to Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachari for Eid holidays. However, a significant number of people prefer Cox’s Bazar beach. Because many people like to spend time on the beach for relaxation in summer. That is why many people from Dhaka have chosen the beach of Cox’s Bazar for Eid.
