Thirteen students of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) have been expelled from residential halls for different terms for ragging. Of these, 3 have been permanently expelled and the remaining 10 have been temporarily expelled by the Shahid Moshiur Rahman Hall administration.
The permanently expelled students are: Md. Al-Amin, Environmental Science and Technology (EST) Department 2017-18 session; Sohail Rana, a student of the 2017-18 session of the Department of Mathematics and Md. Bariul Haque Mubin, a student of Physics Department of 2016-’17 session.
Besides, those who were temporarily expelled from the halls are: Mahbub Hasan Rocky and Md. Raihan Rahman Rabbi, students of the department of Physics; Sheikh Jubayer, a student of Chemistry Department of 2018-‘19 session; Md. Parvez Mia, Md. Salman Mollah and Md. Nazmus Shakib, students of the Chemical Engineering of 2017-‘18 session of the EST department; Mohaiminul Haque, Md. Simon Naich and Md. Khaliduzzaman Sourav and Rafiur Rahman Apurba, students of Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department for 2017-‘18 session.
The expulsion order was issued through an office order signed by the provost of the hall Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Zahid on Wednesday night. It has been ordered to leave the hall by 11:30 am on Thursday (April 21).
According to the office order, the accused were arrested on the night of April 17, the student of the 2019-20 session of the Department of Physics. Sabbir Alam was called to Room No. 321 of Shaheed Moshiur Rahman Hall of JUST and was brutally tortured mentally and physically.
