Professor Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal remarked Electronic voting machine (EVM) as a low level technology. Therefore, he advised the Election Commission to discuss the issue with the educationists before using it in the election.
The advice was given by the former professor of computer science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in a dialogue held on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm with the participation of academics.
“EVM is a matter related to technology. The matter can be analyzed with the help of technology related teachers. Now, a lot of new tech has emerged. Such as block chains. Here all these things are made completely foolproof. We have to sit with the academia of science and technology to discuss about EVM. Only if they are convinced, they can tell the nation that there is nothing to fear about EVM, it is completely safe.” he commented.
Calling for expatriate Bangladeshis to be given the opportunity to vote, he said about one crore people of the country live abroad. They also think about the country. We have to see how they can vote. Lately, it is seen that many people are making mistakes in their national identity cards. Many people are not getting a solution for this even after spending a lot of money. If the Election commission looks into the matter and solves the problem, there will be a positive impression on them.
In the dialogue, the participants advised the Election Commission to clarify their position and gaining confidence and relevant skills, making voters aware and ensuring a participatory elections focusing on the upcoming 12th parliamentary elections.
