The US-based video streaming platform Netflix and video-sharing platform TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, have announced that they will suspend operations in Russia. The country has suspended live streaming and uploading of new content.
A Netflix spokesman said they had decided to suspend their services in Russia “considering the situation.”
Until the latest news, the American Express has also suspended operations in Russia in response to the attack in Ukraine. Similar steps have been taken in Belarus. From now on, the American Express card will not work in Russia. Earlier, VISA and MasterCard suspended their services in Russia.
Two other large companies have suspended transactions with Russia. The companies are PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and KPMG.
A number of international media outlets have suspended work in Russia, citing concerns over workers’ safety. These include the BBC, Bloomberg News, CBC Canada, German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, and Italy’s Rai.
The international payment system Swift has also recently stopped trading with Russian financial institutions as part of sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.
After two weeks of the Russian attack on Ukraine, the countries have imposed sanctions on Russia. Multinational companies are still withdrawing business from Russia. A number of international companies have announced that they will suspend transactions with various Russian financial institutions until Sunday (March 6th) local time.
